Royal Mail Technical

Machine Readability

This is our technical section which is only specific to those customers who have chosen the machine-readable options for letters and large letters.

The user guide chapter details all the mandatory requirements for postings where customers have chosen to present items with no sorting or where the Low Sort option is preferred.

For new customers who have chosen the machine-readable options, the supporting tools and documents provide details on the Quality Assurance Process (including process maps, test data and application forms). Included is a regularly updated list of accredited envelope manufacturers, printers and mailing houses who can produce machine-readable mail pieces.

For those customers who have undergone the Quality Assurance process and are posting machine-readable items you can download the Barcode font free of charge.

If you are using one of our templates to help check that your mail pieces visually meet specification, the instructions on how to use them are also available to download.
